As I listen to this while commenting, I am instantly drawn back to the golden times of gaming. This track is by far your most narrative in comparison to everything else you have written. This feels so fluid and frightening. You have more than captured the essence of the dungeons in ALttP, but not only have you succeeded in doing so, for you have brought in the feeling of fear; the desire to press forward, but the lack of courage to do so. There is a very certain subterrainness to it. The music keeps you moving, but with every step grows the level of cautiousness. I cannot thank you enough for placing me in this mood.
Now let’s see you do a redux of the Spirit Temple. I suggest this because the Spirit Temple (aside from its name) holds such spiritual wonder; such that sparks a higher emotion - one that cannot easily be defined; one that cannot easily be obtained through any other installment in the Zelda series’ music. Please, I implore you, captivate us all with a Spirit Temple redux.
Thank you.
Hmm early update. Darn could’ve reviewed this last night before bed.
Anyway, finally a retro update. Very nice trumpet and choir! Wow choir just came in while typing this god that sounded awesome. Very good, better than last week.
You get: 8.5 out of 10
Details:
Nice treat giving a track from an early Zelda game; bonus points
As said above, nice trumpet and choir
Not loopy, pleasure to listen to
Faded out but done well
Overall great track
Not your best work, Fire. A bit twitchy at times. The velocity that is.
1) This is Vruliic’s song, not FireGS’, so there’s your correction Rolf.
Stephen: The choir is Vruliic’s voice. Vruliic prefers real voices rather than midis when he knows he can hit the specific notes well. He has perfect pitch after all…
And btw, you give an 8.5 out of 10, yeat you never mentioned anything wrong with it?
I can definitely hear where it sounds twitchy. Unfortunately this was made on outdated software >_> due to hardware constraints. In a few months, I’ll have the hardware to support all the newer software I own, so a redux of this song is definitely in order at some point. I personally hope to tackle a lot more retro Zelda songs before doing so, though. Yeah, the choir is….pseudo real? Lol, I can’t exactly give away the secret to it, but the trombone in the second run through the verse is also real, btw.
Real vocal and some instruments?
Say hello to 9.5 out of 10. Uber bonus points.
Scary though, ain’t it? That virtual instruments have become so good that when you hear a real recording you question whether it’s fake or not?
I have been listening to ZREO’s wonderful music since it’s second reopening, but this song in particular made such an impression on me that I just HAD to register and say something!
I may not be an expert when it comes to music composition, but I have a father who is. And having grown up around him, I know a great piece when I hear one. It’s very moving and deliciously eerie. aLttP was my first and still my favorite Zelda game, and when a remix so different from the original manages to bring me back to those moments as a 9-year old girl traversing through the light world dungeons… nervously on my guard for whatever new enemy is right around the corner… I KNOW you’ve done your job right.
Congrats on a great piece, Vruliic.
…more retro updates, plz. ^_^
