Mini Game Redux

VGXpo is finally around the corner… crazy. We’re still awaiting confirmation of our booth number, but we should be somewhere around Booth #1309, which is right by the entrance off to the left (and close to the Nintendo booth!). Unfortunately we cannot guarantee everybody who attends the expo a CD, those of you who do get one will be fortunate enough to be among the 1,000 fans to obtain the promo disc-only track “Spirit Tracks Trailer v2″. This is a track that will not be released on the site, and will be purely for the recipients of the promo CDs. If you want this song you’re going to have to come and get it!

Today’s update, however, we are releasing on the site… Mini Game Redux from the Ocarina of Time soundtrack. Our original idea for this song was to play it at the VGXpo while we did some sort of game for prizes, but later scrapped the idea in favor of having “listening stations” where people can come to our booth and listen to our music using computers and headphones. Please enjoy!

We’d like to congratulate Vruliic as his development team will be attending as an exhibitor to show off upcoming titles. Also, he was asked to compose the expo’s opening ceremony music and arrange music for the world premier trailer of the very first packaged DSI game in North America (to be announced at the show), published by Storm City Games. ALSO he will be speaking in a music panel with a few other industry musicians. So keep your ears open!

Mini Game Redux sounds great, but I think that the snare drum, the vibraphone, and the harp are all way too quiet.

Congratulations Vruliic. That's a real honor. And congratulations to the whole ZREO Team who made all this possible. Hopefully you'll open up some eyes at the expo.

Pretty nice work, I love Redux Sound… Good luck for the future ! All the best :-)

Some clipping around :19

I'll have it fixed in a little bit

I love the idea of a game in the booth that plays that song. You could of had them shot arrows at each other or something like that to find the winner. Last man standing!

Why can`t you post the Spirit Tracks v2 Soundscape on the site? I can`t go to the expo. I like what you guys are doing, but this I do not like

Posted by SuperJario (October 3rd, 2009 at 10:35 pm) permalink

Yeah, I agree, it's not really fair, as there are lots of us who live REALLY far away from there and have no hope of going…

Like me. I currently live in Turkey, so yeah, no VGXpo for me.

Posted by AshleyMason35 (October 4th, 2009 at 1:06 am) permalink

Is the Spirit Tracks v2 available on the CD that donors will receive?

Posted by Thomas (October 4th, 2009 at 3:10 am) permalink

Not that what I say is official cause I'm a nobody.. but yea. It's the same CD.

Posted by Vruliic (October 4th, 2009 at 4:18 am) permalink

It is the same cd that we will be handing out at the expo, so yes.

Posted by GEH (October 4th, 2009 at 7:59 am) permalink

True, like people in Europe, Africa, Australia or Asia. These people have to travel half way around the planet to get it…

Posted by GEH (October 4th, 2009 at 8:05 am) permalink

I can understand you wanted to give people who supported you a thanks for thier effort, but a signed CD from the team (who will be rather rare) should be a good reward even if all the tracks are available from this site.

I know that many of the developers use this tactic to sell games (have picked up a Collector`s Edition of Metroid Prime Trilogy).

Posted by Vruliic (October 4th, 2009 at 4:53 am) permalink

We wanted to reward those individuals who are taking time out of their busy schedules to come to expo by thanking them with a tiny exclusive. However, if you MUST know, we had already secretly planned to release the song on the website months down the road – around the time Spirit Tracks comes out. We are about cool shit. And exclusives are cool. We only thought it'd be nice to let people feel special for a while, but I guess we're not allowed to do that.

It's not unfair to reward effort and support – this idea is the foundation of both the industry and the games themselves that you play.

Posted by Dark Link (October 4th, 2009 at 2:16 pm) permalink

I think it's fine. I won't even go to VGXpo, but it's an exclusive. Not everyone can be pleased. If you were to ask me, just leave your plan as is.

Not only just to sell games, but gaming as a whole. Within the games especially. You would not care to 100% percent complete (as opposed to just completing) a game if it did not reward you with cool shit for doing so – a badass gun, secret ending, major plot twist. And the MORE it rewards you, the more awesome and special you feel for doing it.

Also within retailers, who are rewarded both at random and through contests for doing this right. Back in 2004, my Game Crazy won a Nintendo contest for selling new product through the holiday, and as a result I walked away with $900 on a special edition Nintendo Visa Debit card.

Also within game production itself. We're still releasing the track; however, we want to reward the effort and support of the people who are coming out to the show by giving it to them months ahead of time. If you were among those people, you would be very happy we are doing this.

I am not being mad at you for giving them the track ahead of time, but all I am saying; that you should also consider those that support the site by being here and keeping it alive.

Secondly, the Zelda series does not have much reward other thn braging rights for completing it 100%.The only games in the series that I can think of is The Legend of Zelda(second quest), The Adventure of Link(start with your original stats) and the Oracle series(password). You shouldtake alook at Tales of series if you wanted to point big weapons, but Tales of Symphonia (the only one I have) requires at LEAST 3 Playthoughs to get 100%.

Third, I would be happy to get a CD from you regardless from its contents. If you saw fit to just make a CD without exclusive content, I would been happy too. How often do you get a free CD? (With good music I might add?)

Finally, if you are going to do this again, please do not write that it is not going to be released on the site.Tell people the whole truth, that way we can avoid this again.

lulz? You're completely wrong. Finding all the Poes in Twilight Princess gets you a bunch of silver rupees. The long trading items side-quest in Ocarina of Time gets you the Biggoron's Sword. Plus, in Ocarina of Time, it just looks epic to scroll through the start menus and see EVERYTHING filled out. It's not just bragging rights; you actually get cool stuff for it.

The CD isn't technically free. It's for people who helped with the VGXpo effort, be it by donating or attending. It' was offered as a reward for those who donated, because before it, the only real reason for donating was being a genuinely nice fellow, and that's not exactly reliable. I'd also venture a guess and say that the people who donated have also been here for a while because that gives them more of a reason to donate.

It's not saying that you're unworthy since you didn't donate or go to the expo. It's saying that a bunch of people came together to donate nearly $1500 in a month, and that's deserving of something special. It's saying that a bunch of people will travel from all over to go to the expo next weekend, and that's deserving of something special. Do you really think you deserve to get the same reward as them? (serious question)

Posted by GEH (October 4th, 2009 at 8:55 pm) permalink

All I am saying is that people should be treated equally. There are people who contribute to the site and the expo. Both should be rewarded.

The reward for finding the Poes in Twilight Princess is Infinte Money. By the time you have completed this, you must be at the beinning of the 8th dungeon which makes it near the end of the game, so it is nearly pointless of reward. Biggoron Sword is a clumsy weapon, but it is powerful. Still I prefer the Master Sword as it is more better to handle and faster to use. I admit that Majora`s Mask delivers bonuses in the buckets. (Great Fairy Sword… LOVE IT)!

Most items in Ocarina are story-related and the bonuses does not give you so much power. 100 Golden Skulltulas give you Infinite Money, but as Twilight Princess it is so late in the game that is does not serve a use. You must have finished Spirit Temple and Shadow Temple.

They should make the tracks available so peoble could make their own CD. And still how much does a CD cost these days? I would make my own, but because of this is impossible (at least for a few months).

Wow… this certainly a very special occasion for us. I may not be able to attend due to inconveniences at University however I am still very much excited of our public appearance at such a major event. Vruliic has been a great help to all of us in terms of many factors. I hope all goes well with you, ZREO Team. Woo!

Oh yea, last but not least – the redux is great! (of course I would say that wouldn't I?) ;)

the biggoron sword is the ultimate weapon plus its less clumsy than the hammer for when you lose the master sword fighting Ganon

"All I am saying is that people should be treated equally. There are people who contribute to the site and the expo. Both should be rewarded."

Eh, I don't really agree with that. Some people visit the site and comment. Some people visit the site and comment and donated. Some people visit the site and comment and are going to the expo. Some people visit the site and comment and donated and are going to the expo. That's not all equal.

Posted by Vruliic (October 5th, 2009 at 1:02 am) permalink

btw we're going to be giving out roughly a little more than 300 each day, that way they don't all go in one day

Posted by GEH (October 5th, 2009 at 6:24 am) permalink

Even so there is bound to be complains fom those how got the CD when the track is released anyway… so I do not see the difference between doing it now or later.

Posted by GEH (October 5th, 2009 at 6:26 am) permalink

When compared to Deku Nuts, the Biggoron Sword loses big time…

Posted by Thomas (October 5th, 2009 at 6:32 am) permalink

Vrullic already addressed that:

"We only thought it'd be nice to let people [donators and people who go the expo] feel special for a while, but I guess we're not allowed to do that. "

Posted by GEH (October 5th, 2009 at 6:57 am) permalink

If they released it after the VGXpo is over there re still a few days they feel special…

Posted by Thomas (October 5th, 2009 at 7:01 am) permalink

Dude you really have to READ Vruliic's comments. he said :

"we had already secretly planned to release the song on the website months down the road – around the time Spirit Tracks comes out"

Which is around mid-December. That's 2+ months of specialness :D

Posted by GEH (October 5th, 2009 at 7:32 am) permalink

And that is a long time if you ask me… I have to wait until December to make my CD. LAME!

I can't be sure, but I think this qualifies as longest reply train ever on our comment page.

Oh joy. Still good to see people eager to share their opinions, though.

Yep! MAke it as long as we can.

Posted by ebuch (October 5th, 2009 at 4:43 pm) permalink

We wouldn't HAVE cds in the first place if it weren't for all of our donors. They literally made our dream event into a reality (this weekend), and releasing a song for them before everybody else is the LEAST we can do for them. We don't mean to show neglect to the people who can't go to the VGXPO, but we'll be damned if we don't do something to show our appreciation.

Posted by GEH (October 5th, 2009 at 5:08 pm) permalink

And I though a thanks would be showing my appreciation… And besides they get a CD FROM THE EVENT. The rest of us have to make one ourselves.
