Ocarina of Time

Happy Holidays from all of us at Zelda Reorchestrated. We hope your holiday isn’t nearly as hectic as ours! Happy three year anniversary for Zelda Reorchestrated’s grand reopening!

Six years ago, an eager 14 year old had the idea of remaking all of the songs from the hit video game series "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" to sound like they were being played by live musicians. He took his idea, and three demo songs to a few web forums and a few music professionals. The feedback was clear: the idea was original, but quite a daunting task.

Ocarina of Time Album Art

82 tracks later, Zelda Reorchestrated has finally finished its original goal. We have completed the Ocarina of Time album!

As of a month ago, we were only short a handful of songs to complete the album, however, many of the songs from Ocarina of Time were not nearly up to par with others, so we decided to go through the album, song by song, and figure out which songs needed to be remade. It started out as five, then ten, twelve. The list grew and grew till we reached a whopping 22 tracks. Today, we release those additional 22 remakes.

While we were doing so, I found that I had to keep turning down or turning up my volume during different tracks. I found that what sounded good on one set of speakers did not sound good on others, so a conclusion was made: All of these songs need to be fixed.

So, along with those 22 new tracks, we have painstakingly gone back through all of the songs, and EQ’ed, remixed to a point, trimmed silence, and fixed volumes. It’s now to a point where one just has to set their volume at a decent volume, and all songs will play with the correct volume. All songs now have correct ID tags, as well as embedded album art. Final bitrate; 192kbps MP3.

We now refer to Ocarina of Time as "complete". No more reduxes will be made of Ocarina of Time songs. That said, the album art has changed on the site to reflect the completion. The main ocarina of Time page will only contain the final 82 tracks. This means that the newest redux of a song has replaced older version, however, we have set up an Ocarina of Time Archive page which has links to all versions of all Ocarina of Time songs that Zelda Reorchestrated has produced over the past six years.

Below we have a series of links to mirrors of the final album ZIP file, which we will be adding to over the next few days:

Freaking amazing! It was well worth that *excruciating* suspenseful wait! So many amazing reduxes (ah, but it'll be a pain adding them all to Itunes….. it'll be worth it though)

On an interesting note, though, it seems like throughout the recreation of the OoT album, both the Bolero of Fire and Fire Temple music were reduxed TWICE, and the only other elemental music reduxed was the Spirit Temple- in this final update. Am I sensing a liiitttle bit of bias? (pfft I'm just kidding, but it is rather interesting that the other ones never got reduxed)

So many great new songs to listen too- and my headphones broke yesterday! maybe I'll get a new pair today…. if so aalllll I'll be listening to the rest of the day is THIS ALBUM.

Next up, Wind Waker? it seems to have the most tracks in it (besides OoT) Of couse, you all deserve a nice break first, after working this hard to finally finish the album that started it all.

AWESOME!!!
One quick question, though: do you plan on releasing CD label art to go with this? I think that'd be mucho cool myself. ;)

Hello! Greetings from Spain! I wanted to thank and congratulate the whole team ZREO for their fine work and for giving us such a wonderful gift for Christmas!

Thank you for this christmas present!

I haven't had the chance to sit and listen to each track, but I went through and listened to small portions. It all sounds GREAT!! Especially that Spirit Temple!! And, well, ALL of the rest! I've been looking forward to this for so long, thank you SO much!

SWEET! AMAZING! WOW!…anyways thanks guys, and Merry Christmas!

Posted by Beyond Nooblike (December 25th, 2009 at 3:53 pm) permalink

What an amazing present for christmas. Thanks a lot for all the great new songs. I especially love Kepora Gebora, the Potion Shop and the Spirit Temple.

For the future I hope that you will just keep on doing tracks from various games week to week instead of focusing on a single game (for me it is a nice thing to guess from week to week which game will get a new song this week ^^). Maybe you can complete the classic games which dont have that many tracks this way.

Merry Christmas to all of you and again thank you very much for this awesome update. It was worth waiting.

This album is amazing! Great work guys. Go ahead and take a break now. What game will be the next to be finished, Wind Waker perhaps?

Posted by SuperJario (December 25th, 2009 at 9:57 pm) permalink

Congratulations, ZREO!!! Completing OOT is a momentous achievement! The new tracks sound very impressive.

However, I think there are a few songs that still need reduxing, namely Master Sword, Door of Time, Horse Race, Horse Race Goal, and Ingo's Theme. In Master Sword, the tinkly 16th-note bell part is what really makes that track sound magical, but you can barely hear it in this rendition. With the other four, the instruments just don't sound as real and full as in most ZREO tracks, and they really could do with some re-re-orchestrating.

But anyway, good work guys, and happy holidays!

Posted by Bakuharo (December 25th, 2009 at 10:09 pm) permalink

Great work guys, and to finish this during the holiday season!!

I've been listening to the complete album all night. The EQ-ing and cleaning up of various songs really polished off your work. I think you guys made the goddesses smile!

Oh. And that new guitar sound in Lon Lon Ranch is amazing, by the way. :X

I think A Link to the Past. They have very few songs left there…, but first they have earned a good long rest. Merry Christmas ZREO!

Posted by GEH (December 26th, 2009 at 10:28 am) permalink

Dodongo`s Cavern freaked me out… When I played Ocarina of Time the Shadow Temple scared the crap out of me, but when I listen to ZREO`s Dodongo`s Cavern I nearly jumped out of my skin.

Posted by panzi (December 26th, 2009 at 9:27 pm) permalink

I don't miss that, but I think one of the older fire temple versions is a bit better than the one in this album. Well I guess you can't please everybody. :)

In order to compensate for this negative comment here is some positive feedback (all IMO):
I really like the new shop version, also the battle theme was improved. I can't say anything about Kaepora Gaebora, because it just reminds me of tedious waiting for this *#$§ owl to finish brabling. Zoras Domain is definitely improved, and the Potion Shop is new, right? Its great. Is the Spirit Temple new? If its not its so much better than the memory of the old version fades when I here this version. :)

Posted by Red Phazon (December 27th, 2009 at 1:20 am) permalink

I am just amazed at the final product. The quality is simply amazing. It makes me want to play an enhanced remake of Ocarina of Time. Really, I love what has been done with these tracks. The only thing that I am disappointed with is the short length of some of the tracks such as the Spirit Temple and Kotake & Koume's Theme. Or maybe they just went by so fast. Excellent work ZREO!

Posted by asdf (December 27th, 2009 at 2:59 am) permalink

wow!! Congratulations!!

thanks for all the hard work!

Firegs only re-reduxed the fire temple and bolero cuz it has the word fire in it duh!!!!! j/k lmao…. the other ones were just fine the way they were

Posted by guest (December 27th, 2009 at 3:53 am) permalink

Yall knocked it outta the park. I was really impressed how it was a carbon copy sound of the original album but just as yall say, reorchestrated. Bravo and thank you

Posted by Andrea (December 27th, 2009 at 7:24 am) permalink

Congratulations! Seriously—they all sound amazing. The Spirit Temple… When I listened to it, it gave me the chills. It felt like I was back in there and about to face the boss or the Iron Knuckle. Definitely captured the atmosphere of the game in that one, along with all of the others.

Amazing work; now I'm inspired to replay the game. Happy holidays and thank you so much for completing it! A masterpiece! :)

Posted by RDX (December 27th, 2009 at 7:37 am) permalink

I hate to always be "that guy", but I wish you redid the Ganon Battle song. Also even though the old Potion Shop and Ganondorf Battle themes were sort of "unorchestral", I have to say they were incredibly awesome.

Those are my only gripes. All in all the album is pretty awesome, when you listen to all of them together. Also I really like the new Zelda's Theme, I like how you changed it up a bit.

Posted by RDX (December 27th, 2009 at 7:42 am) permalink

Also, Spirit Temple and Battle are completely awesome. Just thought I'd add that in there :p

Posted by FauxMask (December 28th, 2009 at 4:39 am) permalink

Wooo! Congrats guys! These remakes are awesome!

I swear, someone should talk to Nintendo and organize a remake of OoT with advanced graphics and new added features/quests, all using THESE orchestrated versions of the songs instead of the normal music (just like with Street Fighter II Remix).

Nintendo and the people involved would make a crap load of money off of that.

Posted by c45j (December 28th, 2009 at 6:40 am) permalink

did you guys remake the music used in the commercial as well? "riders of doom/riddle of steel" by basil poledouris… it was a slightly modified but better version of that song in the commercial.. you should remake it.

Posted by Oracle_Link (December 28th, 2009 at 6:43 am) permalink

I have to completely agree here. I was all absorbed in the music and then OMG! Dodongo's Cavern. I was like, WHAT IS THIS? And then I saw it was Dodongo's Cavern and couldn't believe it

Posted by Oracle_Link (December 28th, 2009 at 6:47 am) permalink

This is seriously epic, guys. Congrats on SO many levels. =) (And thanks for making the album art square, iTunes cuts off all the other ones)

Oh, and you should do the oldest three Zelda games now (after a well-deserved break, of course) since they're small, so it won't take long. Then you can say you've done 4 full Zelda albums. =D

There was something else I was going to say, but I forgot. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Posted by Oracle_Link (December 28th, 2009 at 6:49 am) permalink

Oh, and I just got awesome new recording-quality headphones for Christmas, so now I can hear the full epicness of these songs on them. =)

Posted by Mycro_chip (December 28th, 2009 at 9:50 am) permalink

We have not reorchestrated it yet. We may consider doing so in the future.

Posted by RDX (December 29th, 2009 at 7:23 am) permalink

I have more comments! Maybe I should just log in, but that sort of takes effort so I wont bother.

I sort of like how you went with the old Fire Temple in the redux, but the "allahu akbar" parts, or whatever it was at the beginning of the chanting sounds totally different from the original. it sounds almost russian. I understand how you couldnt do the chanting word for word like the original was because then someone would get offended again, but I just thought it sounded a little off.

anyone agree? it doesnt really take away from the song, it just sounds different.

Posted by Manjak (December 29th, 2009 at 1:10 pm) permalink

This is fantastic. Lot's of kudo's !

Posted by Vruliic (December 29th, 2009 at 1:32 pm) permalink

Well I don't know what to tell you. I did weeks of research with literally zero help attempting to match the low quality, reverb-drenched in-game chants to the closest Muslim phrases I could find. So unless you'd like to tell me what all 3 chants are saying I'd just be happy that there's at least legitimate Arabic phrases being sung in our remake.

Posted by Mycro_chip (December 29th, 2009 at 5:11 pm) permalink

Well, you could set it so you would automatically login everytime like I do.

Posted by Seren (December 30th, 2009 at 1:08 am) permalink

Congratz once again my freinds, you have created yet another beautiful piece of work that exceeds expectations, my favorite would be the Spirit Temple for its absolute epicness. Keep it up!

I have no idea which one you are missing, but if I had to take a guess it's probably Ganon's Castle Bridge, which was forgotten in the playlist with the final update. If that's not the one, sadly you're going to have to find it.
