Da-yum, that sounds amazing. Absolutely loving this one, it sounds much much better than your first one, which I personally thought was great in itself.

Then again, I haven't played WW (what is wrong with me? |D) So I have never heard the original version of this song.

Anyhow, really great update. love the… guitarish thing or whatever strings you've got there *knows nothing baout music*

Strange… this thing told me I was logged in as my WordPress account-? not sure what was up with that.

YES!!! I abandoned listeneing so I could comment as soon as I heard the erhu!! Very cool. I do however think the castanets could be brought down a little, at least until the bass kicks in, and some little crescendos into the accents and downbeats would be nice, to add a little more flavor. The flute could be brought up a little (not too much though), and I'm not a huge fan of the gong, maybe something that cuts through a little more would be better, like a cymbal roll and some cool sounding cymbal splashed on the end, idk. Also, I think a drum or 2 would work really well in this piece, a djembe or something would sound pretty cool, or a doumbek (something that gives a nice articulate bass and some neat sounding higher sounds to fill in some of the sound and add to the atmosphere) but maybe that's just me.

actually, once the bass comes in the flute volume is good. I think some sort of ensemble change should happen when the erhu comes in, just to say WHAM its an erhu! since the erhu isn't part of the original, and the piece just seems to be asking for a change there, I can't exactly explain how… I'm not sure what should change. maybe the mandolin (if its mandolin) could be muted in some way, just to give a different feel and sound, or maybe another instrument entirely, maybe even some pizzicato strings or something… I'm not sure. It just doesn't feel right to me for everything to keep going along with the entrance of the erhu… hmmm

Don't think I'm trying to pick it apart or anything, lol. I really REALLY like Dragon Roost Island, and over the years a LOT has happened in my head with the piece, and I really like this arrangement

Very good constructive criticism I'd say.

ZOMG! Thank you guys so much!! One of my absolute favorites of WW and maybe the Zelda series in general. Sounds great guys, much improved :) keep it up!!

I really like this new song. Big improvement over the last one.

Wow, really amazing ,but I think that for all the music….

Posted by Shadowofdawind (March 6th, 2010 at 4:11 am) permalink

Woooooooooooooooooooow!…this is more sticked to the original….and yet it has parts of the original "ZREO" version…. the Nintendo version is more like a Peruvian Style, your original is more like a Far East style…but his one mixes all 3 syles….love it!!

Posted by Pineconn (March 6th, 2010 at 7:20 am) permalink

Hmm… very good redux. Does anyone else feel that the flute is on top of the beat just a tad? It seems that the entire flute track could be delayed by a few tics to make it fit better…

Posted by Pineconn (March 6th, 2010 at 7:21 am) permalink

Eh, idk, maybe I'm just nitpicking a bit too much.

Posted by Ryoni (March 6th, 2010 at 9:24 am) permalink

Wow. Just wow! this was one of your best songs ever remade! :O
ZREO, you made my day!

AWESOME! I have been waiting for this redux, like, forever!
Perfect! There's really not much more to add then that this is perfection!

It does seem a little like it is, but it doensn't get ahead so it's ok. Things like that do bug me a bit but as long as it stays in tempo I'm fine :D

Posted by Teengamer (March 6th, 2010 at 2:45 pm) permalink

yes, Yes, YES, YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I have waited for SO LONG for this redux! Thank you guys so much for updating.

The only thing I might make different about it is if the flute was just a little bit louder in the beginning. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right on a few things – The flute definitely needs to be brought up in the beginning, and in order to do that they need to bring the mandolin and casternets down just a little. But as soon as they get further into the song, with the bass kicking in and everything everything is REALLY balanced out. They did a good job overall anyway.

Posted by Teengamer (March 6th, 2010 at 2:58 pm) permalink

It sounds fine to me. The only thing I hear wrong is that it's not loud enough in the beginning.

I liked the previous version of this and I think it sounded already good, but this one really brings out the song`s spirit. Good job ZREO!

Posted by skotein (March 6th, 2010 at 6:29 pm) permalink

It sounds pretty good! My only gripes: I think the upright bass could be more prominent and have an occasional slap to the frame as in the original to drive the piece further, castanets could use more variation, there should be clapping instead of castanets in the left ear, panpipes should replace the Irish whistle (or whatever woodwind that is), and maybe switching out the guitar/mandolin for a flamenco guitar would give the piece more "bite".

The original Dragon Roost Island was definitely influenced by coastal South American/Peruvian music, so it confused me when you made some unconventional instrument choices with the erhu, gong, and that European woodwind. Otherwise, I liked the strings and overall quality of the song. =] I still prefer the original, though.

This track is the perfect example of why WW updates are my favorite. Sounds fantastic. Excellent redux.

Posted by Catmaster (March 7th, 2010 at 3:42 am) permalink

OMG, this – this is what I call dragon roost island! ~ I like how it has an oriental feel to it whilst holding the original wind-waker spirit. I can't wait for a soundscape ver if it ever exists.

Posted by Mycro_chip (March 7th, 2010 at 1:51 pm) permalink

Again, very good constructive criticism.

Posted by Erik (March 7th, 2010 at 2:57 pm) permalink

Wow, this is really horrible. Stop ruining everything. The gong is out of place and the Chinese violin? Really?

Posted by Drakee (March 7th, 2010 at 3:03 pm) permalink

Oh man, nice work! Zelda Wind Wakers always was the best Zelda game for me, also cuz of the music and you remixed it perfectly ;)
Especially the Dragon Roost Island has got one of the best soundtracks :D

This is amazing. I love this song and you reduxed it near perfectly. Much better than the first one. Another WW redux I would like would be Hyrule Castle. Keep up the good work!

Posted by Aeolus (March 7th, 2010 at 8:35 pm) permalink

I like the slap idea. The bass part is what really drives this song, and I think some flavoring like that could take it a long way. And the clapping would be good too, either that or some different sounding castanets to go along with the existing sound. I don't like just hearing the woody sound so much, it needs something else, like you said, something less… hollow sounding, and higher pitched.

I do like the mandolin for most of the piece though, but a flamenco guitar WOULD sound really cool, maybe there could just be a section for flamenco or something, maybe a sort of solo section where individual sounds are allowed to "sizzle" out a bit.

About the irish flute. At first I was like "aw man… I was wanting pan flutes…" but then I became ok with it, since there is most likely going to be a LOT of songs featuring pan flutes coming our way soon enough with the release of Spirit Tracks, and I've always been one for variation. I think pan flutes could be worked it, maybe some airy chord hits to back up the melody in a syncopated rhythm, or there could be a section where pan flute takes the melody, or something.

Please, how bout another Twilight Princess update. It has been a very long time, since October 9th, 2008, since the last one. Please.

Posted by skotein (March 7th, 2010 at 9:37 pm) permalink

Hmm… Yeah, the high-pitched tuning of the mandolin seems a bit more faithful to the original. A flamenco solo would kick arse, though. >:D

It's true that ST music uses panpipes, but it's definitely not the same genre as Dragon Roost. I think it would sound much more island-y and tropical whereas most of ST has that Celtic sort of feel. The least they could have done, in my opinion, is have panpipes play the woodwind staccato notes in the background that support the melody, if not the entire melody itself.

"We’ve been having trouble lately keeping up with the site’s server bill with the heavier traffic load lately"

How much is it?

Posted by ebuch (March 8th, 2010 at 12:45 am) permalink

We got moved to a Dreamhost Private Server shortly after our OoT album release, and they've been charging us about $60 for the last couple bills. Adds up quickly..

Thanks a ton! ^^

Agree. It has been a long time. There are several excellent songs in Twilight Princess.

Great redux, much better than the older version.

By the way, why are posting this one at 320kps, but not others? Why not make 320kps versions of all of them? I don't see the logic in choosing to purposely make them available only at 160kps, when you could be making them all at 320kps, and dropping the 160kps versions altogether.

Posted by Mycro_chip (March 10th, 2010 at 8:19 am) permalink

The real reason is that we accidentally released it as 320kbps when we normally release it as 160kbps so we updated with both bitrates. The difference between them is very little and would not be heard by most people who visit this site due to their quality in headphones or speakers.

Posted by Tyeforce (March 10th, 2010 at 9:24 pm) permalink

But wouldn't you want your reorchestrations to be the highest quality possible? Well, highest compressed quality, at least. I can understand not going all FLAC.

Posted by Mycro_chip (March 11th, 2010 at 2:02 am) permalink

I do see your point however I am not the one who is in charge of the site updates. I recommend contacting ebuch since he is the one who organises how it works. We have also considered .flac however most people would not have a clue what that may be and it also requires another media player to play them and the most important one is that it's difficult to hear the full potential of the format.

The sound quality for Twilight Princess songs is already very good. I want to see them complete A Link to the Past!

Good job! I like the guitar in the background.
